  • The Building Group has completed work on the new residential complex built in Milan in the former abandoned area in front of the Colonne di San Lorenzo.
  • The project is signed by ACPV ARCHITECTS Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel studio.
  • For the financing of the work, EUR 2.5 million was also raised through an equity crowdfunding operation.

The Building Group announces the completion of the Gate Central project just a stone’s throw from the centre of Milan, completing an accurate urban regeneration intervention in the Porta Ticinese district, giving back to the Milanese city an area that had remained unfinished since the Second World War.

The modern residential complex located opposite the Colonne di San Lorenzo and the Basilica of the same name represents a combination of architectural innovation and respect for the surrounding historical heritage. The construction project of the new building and the redevelopment of the area were realised by the international architecture and interior design studio ACPV ARCHITECTS Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, while the construction supervision was entrusted to the studio Boffa Petrone & Partners.

The building is surrounded by spaces open to the public and an area of 1,700 square metres of gross floor area, developed on four floors above ground and two basement floors, to be used alternatively for commercial and residential purposes. Gate Central is characterised by design, technology, innovation and energy saving: the project is characterised by timeless design and the use of innovative architectural solutions that facilitate energy saving, with all residential units being class A4. The façade, recognisable by the brass perforations of the windows and the Ceppo di Gré natural stone plinth, which draws on the Milanese tradition, favours the integration of the building with its surroundings.

The historical importance of the area, with its precious Roman colonnade, also required an additional study that delayed the construction progress by a few months. The excavations were carried out by the Building Group to ensure the protection of the highly valuable artistic heritage, under the supervision of specialised archaeologists and technicians from the Superintendency.

The building project was also co-financed through the equity crowdfunding platform Concrete Investing, with a €2.5m raise that rewarded investors with a return on investment (ROI) of 27 per cent over a 27-month period, bringing forward by four months the originally planned deadline of 31 months.

‘With the Gate Central project we wanted to invest in a work that enhances the environment and the surrounding context, filling a decades-long urban void,’ said Piero Boffa, President of the Building Group. Porta Ticinese is an area of great historical charm, where a process of urban regeneration is underway that will make it one of the city’s most interesting centres’.
