Building presents an exhibition of six paintings by Piedmontese artist Daniela Balbiano, entitled “Beyond Cages: Imagined Freedom”, from 30 March to 20 May 2025.
At the Domus Lascaris exhibition space, in the heart of Turin’s historical centre, Daniela Balbiano’s solo exhibition entitled “Beyond the Cages: Imagined Freedom” will open from 30 March to 20 May 2025, on the initiative of the Building Group. The Piedmontese artist will present a collection of 6 paintings in mixed media, each bearing witness to that delicate balance between oppression and freedom that characterises the human condition.
The works will be visible from outside Domus Lascaris through the large windows overlooking the intersection of Via Lascaris and Via Dellala, in a dialogue between private space and collective dimension that invites passers-by to reflect on the invisible cages that define who we are and who we could be.
Daniela Balbiano’s exhibition is an invitation to focus on the moment of fracture, the precise instant in which codified forms crack to allow new expressive possibilities to emerge: the gesture that defies the line. The subjects represented find themselves suspended in that liminal dimension between acceptance and rebellion, between the weight of customs and the vertigo of change, reflecting what the artist calls ‘the fragile dance between oppression and freedom’. The figurative language becomes a tool for investigating the human condition, capturing the dynamic tension of bodies that resist, sway, allow themselves to be dragged or attempt to escape.
Daniela Balbiano, born in Voghera, developed her artistic career through many experiences. Despite her precocious talent for drawing, for many years she mainly devoted herself to her family and the winery she ran with her husband in the Piedmont hills of Andezeno, cultivating her passion for art. It was only when her three children grew up that Balbiano fully returned to her passion, training in Florence and Turin under the guidance of art masters. Always associated with portraiture and figurative art, her technique has evolved while maintaining a constant inner research at its core.
